NederlandsJulie Scott is a vocalist and songwriter with Scottish roots. Her music is raw, poetic, and rich in expression – ranging from intimate ballads to international collaborations. The Scottish-born artist first rose to prominence in the 1990s with the experimental folk rock band Mizpah, touring alongside acts such as Luka Bloom, The Levellers and 16 Horsepower. Mizpah performed at major festivals including Lowlands and SXSW in Texas.
Following Mizpah, Julie relocated from Arnhem to The Hague, where she founded the eclectic rock band Can-of-Be. Together with composer and multi-instrumentalist Roeland Drost, she composed music for various theatre productions.
Julie toured for a year as lead vocalist with DASH!, the jazz ensemble led by Maarten Ornstein, and collaborated with the renowned Residentie Orkest on innovative musical projects. She also co-wrote and recorded multiple tracks with British trance legend Solarstone, featured on his albums Rain Stars Eternal and One.

Julie Scott is known for her theatrical, powerful voice and is often compared to artists such as Jeff Buckley and PJ Harvey. She whispers, enchants, and captivates – sometimes accompanied only by guitar, other times supported by cello, Hammond organ, searing samples, and haunting harmonies. Her music is cinematic and deeply moving, her lyrics unflinchingly honesty.
Spellbound & Anam Cara (2023)
In 2023, Julie collaborated intensively with Peter Slager (of BLØF) on a new album under the name Spellbound. Written remotely during the pandemic with a group of close musician friends, the album features 17 tracks imbued with warmth, hope, and a fireside atmosphere that longs for togetherness.
Anam Cara was released in 2023 by Continental Record Services, marking a new, intimate chapter in Julie’s musical journey.
Celtic Story Concerts
Julie combines folk rock and storytelling in her live Celtic concerts. Sometimes she performs solo; at other times she is joined by guitarist Remco Visker or pianist Roeland Drost.
